An Industrial customer contacted our Service Department to look at two Perkins 4008 engines that required a strip, inspection and report after 20,000 operating hours.

Above is the engine upon arrival to our workshop.
Our engineers stripped and inspected the engine to provide a detail health status to the customer before any work was carried out. Various parts found to be missing upon initial inspection.
Starter motor missing and wiring cut completely off.
Debris was found within the oil sump, liners cleaned up from carbon to allow removal of pistons with cross hatching in liners still visible. All Crankshaft mains found to be marked and was in need of polishing. Further inspections found the Main Bearing and Big End Bearings all found to be Standard Size.

Following the strip and inspection the customer authorised for a complete overhaul of the engine including polishing of the crankshaft.
