Aged a mere 68, Bob Troop’s appetite for work is undiminished.

The roles of chairman and managing director at family-owned marine and industrial engines specialist James Troop & Co weigh no heavier than when he took over from uncle John, 71, in 2002.

Longevity among the Troops is a foregone conclusion: “No Troop director has ever retired from this company – they have all died in office,” said Mr Troop, the great great grandson of company founder James who established the firm as a ship repairer in Liverpool in 1867.

He has experienced the most sweeping era of upheaval and change in the firm’s illustrious history but, discussing his age, he is eager to oversee even more exciting landmarks and developments.
